One of my fondest memories of childhood is sitting at the dining room table with my paternal grandparents, enjoying freshly brewed hot tea in the afternoon and noshing on snacks. It was their version of high tea that I’ve always treasured, nibbling on crackers and listening to the adults share stories.
My mother’s family was also known for doing the same – gathered around the table, drinking percolated drip coffee and talking for hours. When my aunt and uncle were stationed in Germany with the Air Force, I remember my mom, her siblings and my grandmother sitting around the kitchen table with a tape recorder, capturing their words and laughs to send to my aunt, who was homesick for their marathon chats.
There are few things better than taking the time to share a cup of coffee – or tea – and conversation with a loved one. Â Go ahead and treat someone to cup of coffee or tea.
Invite that person to meet you at your local coffee shop, diner or at your home. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy – just something warm and welcoming. The time, laughter and presence you both will share is the real gift.
Feel free to share your experience or your creative suggestions. If you’re on Twitter or Instagram, share using the 24daysofgiving hashtag. Let’s spread some love and good cheer!
