Give words of encouragement (Advent Day 15)

believe in yourselfDo you know someone who is going through a tough time right now? Maybe he is struggling with a relationship or family issue. Or she was laid off and in the process of trying to find a new job. Perhaps it’s a student cramming to get through finals and finish papers for the semester. And chances are there is someone you know who is battling a chronic or serious health issue.

Take a few moments today to make a phone call, send an email, text, Facebook post or tweet to give your loved one, friend or co-worker a few words of encouragement.

Keep it simple, upbeat and caring – the kind of message you’d like to receive when you’re feeling low or defeated.

It’s important to avoid giving advice, empty platitudes or psuedo-affirmational statements such as “God never gives you more than you can handle” or “That which doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.” Your words should be supportive and comforting.

Everyone has good and bad days. A little bit of encouragement can go a long way toward lifting someone’s spirits during a challenging time and letting them know they aren’t going it alone.

Feel free to share your experience or your creative suggestions. If you’re on Twitter or Instagram, share using the #24daysofgiving hashtag. Let’s spread some love and good cheer!
